* Coalition "reckless" with UK road safety, says Labour
London,EN,UK -Road Transport, by Chris Druce -21 November 2011: -- Labour has accused the coalition of being “reckless” when it comes to UK road safety, citing the decision to approve the trial of longer semi-trailers last month as indicative of the government’s stance on the issue... In a statement issued at the start of Road Safety Week, Labour Shadow Transport Secretary, Maria Eagle, says the government is out of touch with drivers’ wishes... “Over the past year the government has cut road safety grants by 40%, removed all funding for speed cameras, and approved a trial of longer HGVs,” says Eagle... Labour points to a recent upward trend in UK road deaths and calls on recently appointed transport secretary, Justine Greening, to “rip up her predecessor’s reckless plans”...
