Las Vegas,NV,USA -The Trucker News Services -21 March 2011: -- Caterpillar Inc. unveiled its first Cat Vocational Truck, the Cat CT660, Sunday at a pre-CONEXPO/Con-Agg 2011 media event hosted by the company in Las Vegas...   Five CT660s with different body styles will be on display beginning Tuesday when the tradeshow officially opens to the public... The Cat Vocational Truck line will be sold and serviced exclusively through the Cat North American Dealer network, with production beginning after CONEXPO for customer delivery later this year... The Class 8 vocational trucks will offer custom solutions, including many different body types like dump, refuse, hauler and mixer, for a large variety of job applications... * USA - Class 8 order backlog reaching 100K units

Columbus,IND,USA –Today's Trucking -21 March 2011: -- Class 8 truck net orders for North America totaled 24,300 units in February, down from January, but sufficiently higher than production capacity to push the Class 8 heavy duty backlog volume to just under 100,000 units...  According to ACT Research, that number was just over 44,000 units a year ago...   The latest numbers are a reflection of the strength of Class 8 demand as the economy continues to improve, says Ken Vieth, partner and GM at ACT...  Class 8 orders these past months are being booked at a rate in excess of 300,000 units when annualized...


* USA - Freightliner bulks up vocational models


Las Vegas,NV,USA -Fleet Owner, by Jim Mele -Mar 21, 2011: -- Freightliner Trucks has renewed its vocational lineup with two new severe duty, or SD, models – the 108SD and 114SD...  Unveiled at a press conference before the Conexpo-Con/Agg show, the two new trucks are intended for heavy vocational applications such as dumps, cranes, mixers and roll-offs. Both will be built at Freigthliner’s Mt. Holly plant... The 108SD has a 42-in. set-back front axle with ratings from 10,000 to 20,000 lbs. It can be speced with single or tandem rear axles with capacities up to 46,000 lbs. Engine choices include the Cummins ISB and ISC diesels with power ratings from 200 to 350 hp and peak torques ranging from 520 to 1000 lbs. ft... The 114SD will be offered in two models – a set-forward axle configuration and a set-back axle version. Front axle capacities will go up to 23,000 lbs and rear axle ratings up to 38,000 lbs for a single, up to 58,000 lbs. for a tandem and up to 69,000 lbs. for a tridem... * USA - The 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Outdoorsman

* Mack Granite gets lighter

Greensboro,C.N.,USA -Fleet Owner -Mar 24, 2011: -- Taking weight and cost out of the Class 8 Granite vocational straight truck, Mack Trucks has announced a new “medium heavy-duty” (MHD)model intended for municipal and other cost-sensitive applications. The new Granite MHD is being offered in both set-forward and set-back axle configurations. Power is supplied by CumminsISL9 diesel, which can be mated with either an Allison automatic or Eaton manual transmission... The company has also announced a number of other changes for its vocational truck lineup, including a new 36-in. flat-top sleeper for the Granite...
