Congestion Tracking * USA - To Speed Up Freight Routes

Flitter -2 June 2010: -- In order to persuade the transportation departments in each state to invest in congestion hot spots across the U.S., the American Transportation Research Institution (ATRI) has been gathering data from individual trucks to determine how much of an issue congestion in certain areas really is... The ATRI has been collecting data since 2002 through communication devices installed in trucks by the fleet managers to monitor their own fleets and gather information about individual trucking routes... Overall, the ATRI has tracked congestion information from over 650,000 trucks across the country. They've used that data from the individual trucks to identify and rank the 100 most congested U.S. Highway bottlenecks... The intent of this program was to not only draw attention to these congestion hot spots, but to persuade those with the power to do so to improve the road conditions in these areas...
