* Sweden - How truck maker Volvo ‘moves the world’

Gothenburg,Sweden -The Swedish Wire -22 April 2010: -- Volvo Group, the world's second-biggest truck maker, has compiled a list of remarkable facts about how it’s “moving the world” and how its products “are busy keeping society running smoothly”.

One in every seven meals eaten in Europe has been transported at some time by a truck from the Volvo Group.
If all the Volvo buses in the world started at the same time, they would be able to transport more than 10 million people.
Every day, 300,000 construction machines from the Volvo Group work on constructing roads and buildings and on helping to run mines, forestry operations and farms.
Throughout the world there are more than 200,000 industrial engines from Volvo Penta, helping among other things to ensure power supply for hospitals, airports and irrigation systems.
Every year, 2 billion people fly all over the planet. In 2009, Volvo Aero supplied components to more than 90 percent of all the world's large civilian aircraft engines.
With the 2 million tonnes of refuse that Mack Trucks refuse vehicles transport every week in the USA, it would be possible to build a column of filled refuse bins reaching all the way to the moon.
80 percent of all the snow that falls on Japan's roads is ploughed away using vehicles from UD Trucks...



* USA - Analysis - Changeover dynamics pulling truck demand forward

Nashville,IND,USA -Today's Trucking -23 April 2010: -- Current truck and trailer production is much more robust than over the last year, but, warns market analysts FTR Associates, a significant portion of that is a short-run surge being created by the imminent onset of new EPA-compliant 2010 engines... In its April North American Commercial Truck and Trailer Outlook, FTR notes that fleets appear to be taking advantage of build slots for power units with pre-2010 EPA engines while they are still available, pulling demand forward from the second half of the year...


* USA - DTNA delivers first EPA 2010 truck fleet to Meijer

Grand Rapids,MI,USA -Fleet Owner -Apr 22, 2010: -- Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced delivery of its first fleet of EPA 2010-compliant trucks to Meijer, an EPA SmartWay award-winning “supercenter retailer” headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI. DTNA said placed one of the nation’s first 2010 fleet orders, purchasing 75 Freightliner Cascadia trucks powered by Detroit Diesel DD13 engines equipped with the company’s BlueTec SCR emissions-reduction technology... According to DTNA, the fleet purchase will eliminate 525 tons of NOx and 9,300 tons of CO2 pollution... Meijer operates 191 stores throughout the Midwest. * USA - Kenworth scores major order for Paccar MX-powered T660s

Olathe,KS,USA -Fleet Owner -Apr 22, 2010: -- Kenworth Truck Co. today announced it has received a “major” order for 1,050 of its T660 tractors powered by Paccar MX EPA2010-compliant engines from TransAm Trucking, a leading refrigerated carrier based in Olathe, KS. The OEM noted the Paccar MX uses selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology in combination with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2010 diesel engine emissions regulations... TransAm Trucking has specified the Paccar MX engine rated at 485-hp and 1,650 lb-ft of torque and its T660s are fitted with Kenworth’s 72-in AeroCab Aerodyne sleeper... * USA - Navistar brings electric truck back to D.C. for Earth Day

Warrenville,ILL,USA -Fleet Owner -Apr 22, 2010: -- Navistar’s new light-duty all-electric commercial truck – built with the help of a $39 million stimulus funding grant awarded last year by the Dept. of Energy (DOE) – returned to Capitol Hill this week as part of local “Earth Day” celebrations... Navistar intends to build 400 of the trucks at its facility in Elkhart, IN, this year. The OEM said the expectation is it will produce several thousand of these units within a few years as the market grows... * UK - New MAN 26 tonner tanker debuts at FPS

Southampton,Hampshire,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -22 April 2010: -- MAN has introduced a new 26 tonne chassis for the fuel-oil home delivery market at the FPS (Federation of Petroleum Suppliers) Expo 2010 in Harrogate yesterday... New MAN 26 tonner tanker debuts at FPSTGM 26.340 6x2-4 BL was on tanker manufacturer G.Magyar's stand, with a 'C' day cab, MAN's D08 6.9 litre engine matched to a Tipmatic automated gearbox, rear air suspension with rear lifting and rear steering axle... MAN's D08 6.9 litre engine develops 340PS using EGR (exhaust gas reirculation) technology, which, as MAN tells us again, allows operators to run without adding AdBlue and achieve Euro 5...
