* India - Mahindra Navistar JV works on CNG variants
Mumbai,India -My Digital FC, by Yassir A Pitalwalla -Dec 7 2009: -- The joint venture between the $6.4 billion Mahindra federation and the US major Navistar is working on introducing CNG variants of medium and heavy-duty trucks between the cargo carrying range of 25-40 tonnes... A top Mahindra Navistar Engines official told Financial Chronicle that while the company’s 7.2 litre, 210 horsepower, 6 cylinder engine powered trucks would debut on January 4, 2010, work on CNG powered variants is currently underway... The JV has adapted the Maxxforce range of engines sold in Brazil and Mexico and customised them for the Indian market to produce vehicles that they claim are optimised for Indian conditions. .. * USA - Navistar delivers first 2010-compliant buses
Columbus,MSUSA -Fleet Owner -Dec 8, 2009: -- The Columbus, MS, Municipal School District has taken delivery of the first Navistar school buses with 2010 emissions-compliant engines. The 28 IC Bus CE Series buses were purchased with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in conjunction with the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act’s National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program. The buses are powered by Navistar’s MaxxForce DT Advanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation engines... While Navistar’s heavy-duty 11- and 13-liter engines have not yet been certified, a Navistar spokesperson told FleetOwner that EPA’s approval of its medium-duty DT diesels “certified our solution”... Currently, the only heavy-duty engines to receive EPA 2010 certification are the Volvo and Mack 11- and 13-liter diesels...
* USA - Allison, Delphi form hybrid partnership
Indianapolis,Ind,USA -Fleet Owner -Dec 8, 2009: -- A new long-term business agreement between Allison Transmission and Delphi Automotive Systems aims to help both companies jointly develop more economically viable hybrid powertrains for a variety of commercial applications... Under the terms of the agreement, Delphi will supply Allison Transmission with key hybrid drive system components and energy storage systems... Allison noted it already builds hybrid drive propulsion systems for the city transit bus market with its EP40 and EP50 products. The company also expects to tap a $62.8 million grant awarded by the Dept. of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act earlier this year to help it increase plant capacity to manufacture hybrid propulsion systems for the commercial truck market...
