HOS * USA - Trucking industry digs in for new battle

Arlington,VA,USA -The National Industrial Transportation League/Logistics Management -9 Dec 2009: -- The American Trucking Associations (ATA) posted a web site notice affirming its support for current trucking hours of service (HOS) rules, and stating its intent to maintain them, even as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) starts over on the development of a new set of standards... The ATA asserted the trucking industry is now the safest it has been since the Transportation Department began keeping crash statistics in 1975. It said the number of truck-involved fatalities on U.S. highways has decreased by 19 percent since the new HOS rules took effect and the number of injuries has decreased by 13 percent since 2004. The safety improvements came at a time when the number of registered large trucks operating on highways increased by hundreds of thousands and the number of miles driven by large trucks increased by more than two billion miles...
