Paris,France -HGV (Ireland) -18 Sept 2009: -- French hauliers face the prospect of a three cent per litre increase in the cost of diesel from next year, as the government gears up to introduce carbon taxes... According to reports in the French media, the government is set to introduce a carbon tax levied at €17 for every tonne of carbon dioxide produced... French motoring authorities have estimated that the new tax will add about three per litre to the cost of diesel... * Ireland - IRHA says enough is enough
Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -18 Sept 2009: -- The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has slammed proposals to introduce a so-called Carbon Tax and warned government "enough is enough"... IRHA president Vincent Caulfield said: "Any increase in fuel duty under the guise of a carbon tax will not be accepted by the haulage industry" ... "There is no alternative to transporting large volumes of goods in this country and the Government need to acknowledge that fact" ... "We need to support existing, viable companies and protect existing jobs. But in many sectors we have totally lost our competitiveness and that has to be addressed.," Caulfield added... "Members are already paying higher levels of PRSI, PAYE, insurance and toll charges. This is hugely disappointing news for our industry; an industry which is critical to the revival of our economy given ourcountry's dependence on road transport for the movement of over 95 per cent of freight"... * Ireland - Diesel prices creeping upwards
Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -16 Sept 2009: -- The cost of diesel has risen again in the last month, according to the latest fuel price survey from the AA... The cost of a litre of diesel rose by 1.9 cent in August to a current average of 106.7... "It's a small change but it's in the wrong direction and that is disappointing," said Director of Policy, Conor Faughnan...
