Analysis * USA - FedEx Wins Another Teamster-Contractor Legal Battle

FedEx wins one regarding Independent Contractor classification in Washington State

WASH,USA -Gerson Lehrman Group/Post Chronicle, by Jay Thompson -April 1, 2009: -- That still leaves the big Federal Court battle in Indiana, Card Check lobbying and other State filings that FedEx must continue to fight... These battles have major implications not only for the 15,000 FedEx contractors, but also for all other fleets with hundreds of thousands of Independent Contractors... I do believe that different types of work - and how hard one works - deserves different pay. Full disclosure, I had to join the Teamsters when I drove trucks in college - and had to pay their dues regardless of what scale I was paid. Because I was so low on seniority, I rarely got Teamster work / wages but still had to pay dues. I am therefore biased after my experience - let alone current business ramifications... Regardless, a small win is a positive - and has positive implications for the future. One FedEx Independent Contractor I know offered a solution for all of these folks listed in these suits. She said if you want to be a Teamster package person, you should simply apply for a job at UPS. Sounds entrepunerial to me!...
