The Federal Opposition Leader says a ride in a truck from Melbourne to Dubbo has opened his eyes to the economic pressures facing the nation's long haul truck drivers
Melbourne,VIC,AUST -ABC -September 1, 2008: -- ... Brendan Nelson travelled for 12 hours with Dubbo driver Rod Hannifey and also slept in the truck on Saturday night... He says the lack of rest stops and road maintenance is appalling... Dr Nelson also says the Newell Highway is in a "pretty ordinary" condition and needs to be expanded to dual carriageway... Dr Nelson says he would recommend the experience to all decision makers... Mr Hannifey says the Opposition Leader was a good passenger and he hopes other politicians will share the experience...
