* Nearly 90, this driver recalls when diesel was 15 cents a gallon
ARK,USA -The Trucker, By JERRY BREEDEN -22 Aug 2008: -- Those were the days, my friend... Nick Adams remembers very vividly the days when diesel fuel sold for 15 cents a gallon. “I’ve been driving for more than 70 years now and I’m afraid those days are gone forever,” Adams told The Trucker during a recent layover at a Central Arkansas truck stop. “I remember, too, when diesel shot all the way up to a quarter a gallon and we thought then sky was falling. And when it went up to $1 (per gallon) in the 1970s, everybody was so worried that we went on strike for about a week. We thought the world was at end then, and we just knew it was when it went all the way up to $1.50..." (The Trucker/Jerry Breeden - MEMORIES: Nick Adams, who’s been a truck driver for more years than most of those who share his profession have been alive, remembers when diesel was dirt cheap)
