TRUCKING INDUSTRY NEWS * Australia - New laws for

Australia -ABC News -31 July 2008: -- The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Alannah MacTiernan, says owner-operator truck drivers will be protected under new laws governing the trucking industry... The legislation will establish a base rate of pay and force companies to pay drivers within 30 days after they lodge their invoice... The laws will also establish a tribunal to resolve disputes and allow drivers to claim lost wages... Ms MacTiernan says the changes will make the industry safer... The Opposition spokesman for Planning and Infrastructure, Simon O'Brien, says the laws have the potential to promote price fixing in the trucking industry...
