"GREEN" TRUCKS * Canada - Ayr Motors already invested in cleaner trucking technology

The president of a local trucking company said it will pay twice for completed environmental upgrades if the government charges a carbon tax

Woodstock,New Brunswick,Canada -The Bugle-Observer, by Angela Ferguson -9 July 2008: -- Ayr Motor Express Inc. president Joe Keenan said they began using retrofitted engines in 2003... "We had new engines that were implemented to be more environmentally friendly ... they had huge regulations put on them by the Canadian and the U.S. governments to improve air quality. At the time ... it cost us approximately another $9,000 per truck."... Then, again, in 2007, Keenan added, further upgrades were made, increasing the cost of an engine by approximately $3,000... "So, we've already shared in those costs, and we get no funding, we get no rebates, we get nothing from any of the governments for upgrading our equipment ... Train engines – they are a heavy polluter, but I'm sure there will be an exemption for the rail because they're subsidized by the government."... Keenan said the business is going to keep up with changing technology, which, he added, will probably continue to cost thousands of dollars...
