TRUCKING INDUSTRY COMMENTS * USA - Truckers Rise
Shares of trucking companies mostly rose in midday trading Friday, after a report by the American Trucking Associations indicated U.S. shipments rose by 3.3 percent in November, an encouraging sign in year of slipping freight demand
New York,NY,USA -AP/The Houston Chronicle (Houston,TX) -Dec. 28, 2007: -- Last month's increase was the largest year-over-year increase since January 2005, and just the second month of positive trends in eight months, the Arlington, Va.-based trade association said late Thursday... However, ATA economist Tavio Headley warned that demand will be sluggish next year. Headley noted every monthly increase in freight demand since March has been followed by a decline the following month, indicating that the market is still very volatile... Wachovia Capital Markets analyst Justin B. Yagerman noted that the November tonnage levels are still lower than those in 2004 and 2005, despite the increase over last year's November... Also, the analyst said freight demand should remain "lackluster" through at least the first half of next year. Furthermore, volatility should remain amid uncertainty in the larger economy, Yagerman said...
