Truck Violations * USA - Officials mum on overweight ones
A third of big rig trucks on Florida's highways are operating illegally overweight.

But despite that, Florida lawmakers behave like the three monkeys of a Japanese myth: They see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil... Highway safety advocates say it's an important issue. That's because studies and transportation experts charged with enforcing weight limit laws estimate that as many as 30 percent of tractor-trailers and dump trucks on Florida's roads are breaking weight laws in order to boost profits... In Florida, chances are slim that authorities will even catch most overweight trucks, and if they do, the penalties are laughable... Finally, regardless of how often trucking companies violate the law, they never risk losing their licenses to operate as long as they pay their fines... Some trucking companies operating in Florida get caught violating those laws hundreds of times a year with no change in their behavior, FDOT records show...
