Frustrated Campaign * Australia - Trucker dies as toll soars

A truck driver who died in a rollover at Gillman yesterday was the latest victim in a horrific year on SA roads

Adelaide,Australia -The Advertiser Sunday Mail/NEWS.com.au -December 16, 2007: -- ... The death of the northern suburbs 20-year-old on Bedford St brought the road toll to 120 – six more than this time last year... The climbing toll has frustrated a State Government campaign to keep fatalities under 100 for 2007... This year's toll has already eclipsed the 117 deaths on our roads in 2006... The prime mover crashed into a Stobie pole after failing to negotiate a right-hand bend... The alarm was raised by a female passer-by about 10.45am... Another truck driver, Bob Coad, arrived on the scene after hearing a loud "thud". "I looked in but he was deceased," Mr Coad said. "It's not what you want to see. It's a bad bend, it slopes away"... Mr Coad said the corner was a notorious blackspot... (Picture: The crash scene at which a young driver died at Gillman)
