National Transport Commission safety spokesman Tim Eaton said engine braking noise on heavy vehicles fitted with worn, defective or inferior mufflers had been a community concern for some time... Engine brakes are engaged on the release of the accelerator to help slow the vehicle down and are used to reduce wear and tear on the vehicle's brakes...
