CONTROLS * USA - DMV leader says no fight with truckers
Bristol,CT,USA -The Connecticut Post (Bridgeport,CT), by ROB VARNON -4 Oct 2007: -- Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Robert Ward said Thursday he is not waging a war on the trucking industry, he's just trying to make the roads safe and create a level playing field for trucking companies that play by the rules... Ward and the Department of Public Safety stepped up inspections of trucks throughout Connecticut following another accident on Avon Mountain. In less than three weeks, inspectors from the two agencies uncovered hundreds of violations and issued fines totaling more than $179,000... Truckers who keep up with maintenance and safety will have trucks on the roads, those who don't will face fines and inspectors, he said... Michael Riley, president of the MTAC, has said repeatedly the number of trucks stopped and found out of compliance represents less than 1 percent of those on the roads, because the vast majority of truckers follow the rules...
