MEXICANS' TRUCKS * USA - Congress hurts trucking treaty

With the support of Congress, American consumers are being beat out of billions of dollars annually

Waco,TX,USA -The Waco Tribune Herald -September 14, 2007: -- Our national lawmakers pretend that the higher prices are a small price to pay to protect motorists from unsafe Mexican trucks... Don’t be fooled. The continued efforts to ban Mexican trucks from U.S. highways have nothing to do with safety. That’s a smoke screen... The lawmakers are motivated by money and votes, not highway safety... By a vote of 75-23, the U.S. Senate recently voted to cut off funding for a small pilot program that would allow qualified Mexican commercial trucks access to U.S. highways so they can deliver cargo to American customers... The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and other unions and groups have used their lobbyists to successfully block efforts to honor treaty agreements that allow trucks from Canada, Mexico and the United States to travel freely and deliver goods within the three participating countries...
