* India - Daimler to assemble trucks in India
New Delhi,Delhi,India -Livemint, by Sudha Menon -7 June 2007: -- DaimlerChrysler India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of German auto major Daimler Chrysler AG, is hurrying along its plans to grab a stake in the country’s booming commercial vehicles market... Armed with an order for about 120 Actros trucks, the company has decided to commence assembling the Actros 4840 model from imported kits in India beginning early 2008, said people familiar with the plans. The company is also simultaneously working on expanding its presence in other segments of the commercial vehicles business. On its radar are the smaller Actros 4040 model and Mitsubishi Fuso in the 20-25-tonne range to take on Tata Motors Ltd, India’s largest commercial vehicles manufacturer...

* Canada - Westport shares rise 10 per cent after order for LNG-fuelled trucks in California
Vancouver,BC,Canada -Canadian Press/cbc -June 7, 2007: -- Shares of Westport Innovations Inc. rose more than 10 per cent Thursday after company received US$2.9 million order for 20 liquefied natural gas heavy-duty trucks to be used at the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach... Late Wednesday, the Vancouver-based engine maker said an air pollution control agency in California will buy the trucks, a vehicle acquisition that represents US$144,000 per truck...

* South Africa - A top ten market for global truck giant
Garden View,Eastern Cape,South Africa -Engineering News, by Irma Venter -8 Jun 07: -- South Africa is now the eighth-biggest Mercedes-Benz truck market for the DaimlerChrysler group... This is a major jump from the previous ranking of fifteenth three years ago, says DaimlerChrysler South Africa (DCSA) management board member: sales and marketing Kostas Tsiknas... The South African truck market (medium, heavy and extra-heavy commercial vehicles) recorded 33 083 unit sales in 2006, beating the previous absolute record of 30 742 units, set in 1981, by 7,6%... It even appears that 2007 will exceed 2006 figures as economic growth steams ahead, with especially the retail, long-haul and construction industries hungry for more trucks...

* USA - Mack Performance Tour kicks off in Las Vegas
Lehigh Valley,Pa,USA -Truck News, by Adam Ledlow -7 June 2007: -- Twenty Mack Granite and Pinnacle trucks will be fanning out across North America as part of the Mack Performance Tour beginning in late June. The trucks are equipped with US’07-certified Mack MP engines will visit Mack dealerships in the US and Canada through the end of September...

* Germany - Paccar, DAF and TCH
Dieburg,Germany -Road Transport (UK) -8 June 2007: -- Paccar's decision to buy Truck Center Hauser and to integrate it into the existing Paclease operation seems like a pretty shrewd move. DAF is often seen as boasting a coherent European business, but the reality is rather different. The Dutch offshoot of Paccar is all-powerful in the United Kingdom and Benelux, but much of its European business is somewhat incidental...
