CDL & Passports * USA - Texas eyeing plan to make driver’s licenses into mini passports
TX,USA -Land Line Magazine (Grain Valley,MO)/ El Paso Times -June 8 , 2007: -- Texas is looking at a plan that, if approved, would create a driver’s license that also acts as a passport for those who drive to and from Mexico on a regular basis... The licenses would contain a computer chip that would hold all of the information normally found on a passport. The licenses would cost about $40 each... By 2008, federal rules will require anyone returning from Mexico or Canada by land to provide a passport at the U.S. border...
* New Passport Rules Temporarily Waived
Washington,DC,USA -Transport Topics/Associated Press -8 June 2007: -- The Bush administration Friday temporarily lifted a requirement that U.S. passports be used for citizens flying to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda... Through the end of September, travelers will be allowed to fly without a passport if they present a State Department receipt showing they have applied for a passport, as well as a government-issued ID such as a driver’s license... Those without passports would receive additional security scrutiny, which could include extra questioning or bag checks...
