New Fees * USA - Could Help Clean Up Ports
Right now, there are no fees charged to the 32,000 trucks a day moving through the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles

But that could change dramatically in the next few years under proposals backed by the port’s Board of Harbor Commissioners... First, on Monday the commissioners voted to support a container fee bill working its way through the legislature in Sacramento... James Hankla, chairman of the Board of Harbor Commissioners, said of supporting the bill. “Why should we in Southern California subsidize the cost of goods movement for people in the midwest?”... The second fee would be part of a sweeping plan to replace the dirty, older trucks in the port with newer, cleaner running trucks... The problem was finding the estimated $1.8 billion to do it...
