Several Northeast States Take Steps Toward Privatized Highways, New Tolls
Washington,DC,USA -TTNews, by Andrea Fischer -18 Jan 2007: -- As the federal government moved last week to help states promote private transportation investment, several states in the Northeast took initial steps toward adding toll roads or privatizing existing highways... Several state trucking executives said it looked as if the trend would continue and that their associations were watching developments closely... “If we don’t stop this . . . pretty much the entire route between the Northeast and the Midwest will be privately owned,” said Gail Toth, executive director of the New Jersey Motor Truck Association... The U.S. Department of Transportation issued “model legislation” Jan. 8, meant to “help states reduce or remove barriers to private-sector investment in transportation infrastructure.”...
