Checking out heavy trucks * USA - Stafford Sheriff's Office on the look out for dangerous trucks
... trucks as "80,000- to 100,000-pound loaded missiles" waiting to strike moms in minivans carrying children...
Fredericksburg,VA,USA -The Free Lance-Star, by KELLY HANNON -27 Jan 2007: -- Deputy Lee Peters shuts down a dangerous truck in Stafford at least once a week... The reasons vary. In one case, 11 of a truck's 14 brakes are shot. In another, the driver isn't medically fit to operate a vehicle. And still others, the enormous load of gravel onboard isn't secure... Peters of the Stafford County Sheriff's Office described these trucks as "80,000- to 100,000-pound loaded missiles" waiting to strike moms in minivans carrying children... That thought motivates him, and the department, to regularly inspect the growing number of commercial trucks in Stafford... Peters did full inspections of several trucks... He wheeled under a truck's chassis on a dolly, gingerly wedged under the enormous vehicle. His only protection were a few chock blocks under the tires, and his trust in the driver...
