Survey - USA - Reveals various issues continue to concern the trucking industry

Danbury,Conn,USA -Logistics Management, by Jeff Berman -Oct 25, 2006: -- Fuel prices, the ongoing truck driver shortage, and excessive regulation—not surprisingly—are among the biggest concerns for trucking companies, according to a recently-released survey from GE Capital Solutions, a provider of commercial trucking industry financial services... GE conducted the survey in conjunction with Dun and Bradstreet. Data was based on phone interviews conducted with approximately 1,200 trucking executives, including owners, partners, managing directors, finance directors, and truck operating business managers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and France... Ways of off-setting current and future fuel expenses, aside from passing costs to shippers through surcharges, included:
* Tightening supplier management, 41 percent overall/43 percent in the U.S.;
* Seeking alternative green initiatives, 36 percent overall/34 percent in the U.S.; or
* Leasing trucks to free cash flow, 18 percent overall/14 percent in the U.S.
And more than one-fifth of respondents (22 percent) said the * Driver shortage will continue to hamper their delivery operations for getting goods to existing customers.
In the U.S., the findings revealed that 20 percent of additional freight opportunities have the potential to be affected...
