Norway -Card Technology (Chicago,IL,USA) -24 Aug 2006: -- With its recently announced agreement with automaker DaimlerChrysler, Norway-based mobile network operator Telenor says it expects to supply subscriber identity module cards for up to 90% of new trucks produced in Europe with onboard communications systems... The SIM cards will authenticate computer systems on the trucks, allowing them to transmit all sorts of data over mobile networks and the Internet to shipping companies... This so-called “telematics” equipment on the trucks combines computers, global positioning systems and wireless networks. They allow, for example, shipping companies to transmit new orders to their truck drivers on the road, keep track of location, speed, idle time and fuel consumption for each vehicle in the fleet and even diagnose mechanical problems...
