Mount Gambier trucking tycoon Allan Scott and Transport Workers Union Victoria/Tasmania Branch Secretary Bill Noonan have been honoured in the Queen's Birthday honours list
Australia -Australasian Bus and Coach -12 June 2006: -- Archibald Allan Scott has been elevated to Officer of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) for services to the transport industry, sporting and medical research and aged care organisations... He is Chairman and major shareholder of the Scott Transport Group, K&S Freighters and holds Mt Gambier television, newspaper, retail and hotel interests... William George Noonan was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to road safety and trade unionism. He has been Secretary of the TWU in Victoria for just over a decade and was previously its legal officer... Former transport bureaucrat and now head of the federal Environment Department (and long time Federal Government opponent of the trucking industry) Roger David Beale was also given an AO for services to conservation and the environment. Through the late 1980s and 90s he led the Federal Government lobby to substantially lift charges on trucks...
