South Korea - Cargo union launches a general strike
Seoul,South Korea -Korea Herald (subscription) -31 Mar 2006: -- Nearly 1,000 unionized truck drivers launched a general strike in the city of Gwangju today raising fears of disruption to cargo transportation. The Korea Cargo Transport Workers Federation originally planned to walk off the job on April 3 but brought the strike date forward after militant members urged prompt action, sources said... Unionists in Busan, Ulsan and other major transportation centers participated in the walkout that began in Gwangju... The government prepared alternative transport trucks and large-size tow trucks to pull illegally-parked cars on roads. In a walkout by the cargo union in 2003, the truckers blocked major roads and ports, causing chaos...
