Increases - USA - Commercial truck prices rising
New rules that take effect Jan. 1 will require heavy-duty vehicles to run on cleaner diesel fuel
Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -Mar 20, 2006: -- Commercial truck and bus manufacturers are experiencing a sales bonanza that may last until they introduce next year's models, when new EPA regulations will cause the prices of the vehicles to soar... With the pending price jump expected, many are rushing to buy this year's models, which don't have to meet the higher standards... Last year, truck makers saw sales jump by 29 percent in North America to a record 415,000 heavy-duty commercial trucks, buses and related vehicles... The spike in prices is much higher than what the EPA suggested in 2000, when it announced the vehicles would have to adjust to a cleaner diesel fuel. At the time, it anticipated truck and bus prices would rise by $1,200 to $1,900 per vehicle. Even adjusted for inflation, the estimates were less than half the average price increases...
