Oakland,CA,USA -Oakland Tribune, by Cecily Burt-07/02/2005 — Margaret Gordon has watched and suffered for years as truckers pulled their diesel-spewing big rigs to a halt in front of her Willow Street home while waiting to drop off or load up cargo at the Port of Oakland... Within minutes, she said, her apartment would fill with fumes that sent her into respiratory distress... So Gordon, led by neighbor Brian Beveridge, assembled truckers, union, city and port officials, neighbors, engineers, planners and parking officers. They worked together to come up with a truck route that moves many of the 10,000 to 12,000 rigs that come through West Oakland every day...
