PRODUCTS * Australia - Customisable air/roller systems let trucks load themselves
Epsom,(Bendigo),Victoria,Australia -Road Freight News -14 Dec 2009: -- A truck trailer modification specialist is now able to lines of its new technologies to specifically suit end users of trucks and aircraft during loading and unloading... Industrial Conveying (Aust) Pty Ltd has advanced two technologies from its Airlift Roller suite – Airola and Airchain – to completely customise for transport companies, logistics specialists and general dock requirements where forklifts and manual labour need to be phased out... By customising either or both these technologies for a client, Industrial Conveying is able to configure an automated result with excellent energy efficiency running multiple zones independently on the one trailer or plane floor... The load is firmly supported along the entire length during transit to provide safe cargo handling with a minimum of delay. On-board controls save time and labour... Airchain is apowered trailer bed conveyor system provides automation for bulk and palletised cargo. Making tasks fast and safe, the Airchain is ideal for selective loading and unloading by one operator and it dispenses the need for a forklift...
* Australia - Composite materials for road vehicles on the cards
Clayton,S.Vic,Australia -Road Freight News, by CSIRO -11 December 2009: -- CSIRO researchers have set themselves the goal of producing a new generation of super-strong, lightweight polymer composite materials for use in aircraft, road vehicles, trains and ferries... Aerospace manufacturers have already embraced weight-reducing composites, but until recently they were used in only a limited range of applications. However, in the new generation of aircraft being developed and built today, polymer composites are used extensively, for fuselage and other components, saving fuel and cutting emissions... A team led by Dr Stuart Bateman at CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering is designing and testing even lighter and stronger polymer composites that will out-perform the conventional materials currently used in the transportation sector... Composite materials with new functional properties are created by dispersing low concentrations of specially chosen additives within the polymer matrix... By this means the CSIRO team is producing polymers with unprecedented properties, such as strength, stiffness, impact resistance, fire resistance, and heat reflectance...
