* USA - EPA Certifies Volvo, Mack Engines for 2010
Washington,DC,USA -Transport Topics -16 Nov 2009: -- Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks said Monday that the Environmental Protection Agency has certified their engines as meeting the 2010 diesel emissions standards... VTNA said that the D11 and D13 engines, and Mack MP7 and MP8 engines were certified by both the EPA and the California Air Resources Board. Volvo is the first truck manufacturer to have its heavy duty diesel engines certified by both agencies, Volvo said in a statement... The EPA and CARB standards are the strictest standards for diesel emissions in the world, both brands said. The standards require cuts in the levels of both nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emitted... VTNA and Mack both use selective catalytic reduction technology to reduce emissions. All engines produced after Jan. 1 must meet the EPA standards...
* UK - New Volvo hybrid refuse truck tested in London
London,UK -Fleet Directory, Lee Sibbald -November 18, 2009: -- After a year and a half of preliminary field testing, Volvo Trucks is now launching an upgrade of the world’s first hybrid refuse truck, in London through the UK’s leading waste enterprise Veolia. The company has ordered the new refuse truck... The new truck is an upgraded version of the trucks field-tested in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden over the past eighteen months... Like these trucks, the new refuse truck is what is known as a parallel hybrid...
* Sweden - Volvo to sell stake in Chinese joint venture
Stockholm,Sweden -Reuters -Nov 16, 2009: -- Volvo, the world's second-biggest truck maker, said on Monday it was pulling out of a stalled venture with the China National Heavy Duty Truck group, selling its stake in Jinan Huawo Truck Corporation and clearing the way for a Volvo tie-up with another Chinese group... Volvo said it had signed a deal with Sinotruk and its parent China National Heavy Duty Truck, under which they would buy its 50 percent stake in Jinan Huawo... The Swedish truckmaker's venture with China National never gained much traction, producing little more than 1,000 vehicles since it was established in 2003, in part due to new legislation in China hitting demand for its vehicles... Since then Volvo has moved closer to a possible tie-up with another Chinese vehicles maker, Dongfeng Motor Group Co...
* Canada - Westport Innovations posts gains after announcing long-term engine deal with Volvo
New York,NY,USA -Associated Press/Washington Examiner -16 Nov 2009: -- Shares of Westport Innovations Inc., whose equipment enables cars to run on natural gas, rose Monday after it announced a long-term contract with Swedish car and truck maker Volvo... The Vancouver, Canada, company will supply its technology to Volvo and work with it to find appropriate suppliers for Volvo's heavy duty natural gas engines... Westport said the engines are expected to meet future European emission requirements... Westport technology enables engines to run on compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, hydrogen and biofuels such as methane gas collected from landfills...
