The state DOT in Washington has just reported that two weather-related highway closures last winter cost the trucking industry and shippers more than $75 million
Washington,DC,USA -Land Line Magazine -October 23, 2008: -- ... The two closures, each for four days, were because of avalanches on Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass and because of flooding on I-5 near Chehalis... The state Department of Transportation surveyed more than 2,500 licensed carriers and took into account not only the extra overtime and fuel costs that the closures caused, but also sales that shippers couldn’t make because they couldn’t get their products to the stores... Barb Ivanov, director of the freight systems division at the Washington DOT, said the study gives a much clearer picture of the cost of highway closures than they’ve had in the past...
