Anti-terror - Europe - EC to introduce new freight scheme
Brussell,Belgium -Transport Intelligence -3 March 2006: -- Transport security is again proving to be a major political issue, this time in Europe. The European Commission has proposed new security legislation to protect land based freight transport against terrorist attacks... The new security regime will award freight companies which achieve the appropriate standard with ‘Secure Operator’ status for a period of three years... According to the EC, this will enable them to enjoy fast track treatment at security checks both inside the EU (e.g. ports) and at external borders where customs are implementing new security rules...
