Sales - USA - Sept. Slump in Detroit

USA - The Car Connection -4 Oct 2005: - Toyota, Honda and Nissan all got a lift from sales of compact cars in September while Detroit's Big Two saw sales drop dramatically. The Asian companies succeeded in posting gains even though industry-wide sales dropped 7 percent under the weight of Gulf Coast hurricanes and rising gasoline prices... General Motors Corp. and Ford paced the decline, reporting double-digit drops of 24 percent and 19 percent last month, while Nissan sales increased 17 percent. Honda posted a 12-percent sales increase and Toyota recorded an 11-percent increase in sales... Sales of Toyota passenger cars jumped 19 percent and the pattern was the same at Honda, where sales of the compact Civic jumped 37 percent with the introduction of a new version. Sales of the Nissan Sentra jumped 66 percent and sales of the Altima jumped 24.2 percent...
