* USA - Peterbilt adds medium-duty, vocational trucks to line-up

Denton,TX,USA -Truck News (CAN) -October 22, 2009: -- Peterbilt has introduced two new vehicles - a medium-duty pickup-and-delivery Model 337 and a vocational Model 348... The Model 337 is aimed at pickup-and-delivery, beverage and food service applications and combines driver comfort features with reliability, according to the company... The Model 337 features an ergonomically-designed driver display package that’s easy to read and comes with an optional GPS system that will help drivers navigate urban environments. * Sweden - Truck maker Volvo posts Q3 loss as sales fall

Stockholm,Sweden -Associated Press/Forbes (USA) -23 Oct 2009: -- Swedish truck maker AB Volvo on Friday reported a third-quarter net loss of 2.9 billion kronor ($423 million), due to a steep drop in sales, and said demand was still "far below" normal levels... It was the fourth consecutive quarterly loss for the company and compares with a previous profit of almost 2 billion in the same three months a year ago... Volvo CEO, Leif Johansson, said, that although markets seem to have stabilized, his company "is not relying on our profitability being boosted by a substantial recovery in sales of new products," saying it is still "far below" the long-term trend for sales of new trucks and machines. The company will therefore continue to keep sharp control of costs, he said...

Glimmers Of Hope For Volvo

Truck maker posts a smaller-than-forecast loss and cites a more positive demand picture

Michael Andersson, an analyst with Elvi Bank in Sweden, said the need for a rights issue now looked "distant," but the European truck market was also unlikely to rebound quickly... European markets are particularly under pressure because of the high level of trucks in stock, which companies have yet to use for their operations. A boom in truck sales in recent years has led to a high numbers of new trucks on the road, which tempers the need for buying new models... Quarter after quarter this year, Volvo's sales and profits have been gradually sliding to historical lows. The company posted its worst-ever quarterly loss last July... Analysts now expect Volvo to post positive cash flow in the coming quarters, provided the stabilization in the market continues and its aggressive cost-cutting program goes to plan...


* USA - Volvo, Mack NA truck operations to merge

The new company, called North American Trucks (NAT), will be lead by Dennis Slagle, current president of Mack Trucks... Per Carlsson, current president of Volvo Trucks North America, will assume the position of chief operating officer in the new organization, reporting directly to Slagle... * Germany - Earnings Preview: Daimler 3Q results

Frankfurt,Germany -Associated Press/MSN Money, by GEORGE FREY -October 23, 2009: -- Earlier this month, the Stuttgart-based company said its preliminary third quarter operating profit fell to euro470 million ($700 million), down nearly 28 percent from euro648 million in the July-September period of 2008. Preliminary sales for the third quarter were euro19.3 billion from euro23.7 billion in the third quarter 2008, an 18.5 percent decrease... The company said the results were lower than a year ago, but better than anticipated... As the company looks ahead to an upturn and is investing its future, observers will continue to look at the downturn's effects on the company, and additionally, the weakness of the U.S. dollar which is making European exports more expensive for Americans. The U.S. is one of Daimler's biggest markets...


* UK - New Renault Premium prototype


Essex,UK -HGV UK -October 23, 2009: -- Renault Trucks UK has been working closely with leading car transporter manufacturer, Transporter Engineering, to develop the first transporter capable of maximising loads of vans and chassis cabs, including large jumbo vans, as well as passenger cars. Shropshire,UK -HGV UK -October 21, 2009: -- Haulage company, B Jay Haulage, has taken delivery of a new Renault Premium Lander 410.32 with insulated tipper body... The truck, which is fitted with a retarder and Optidriver + gearbox, is the first vehicle of its type to be built on a Renault chassis... * Argentine - Iveco marks 40 anniversary in

City Cordoba, Cordoba,Argentine -The Buenos Aires Herald -23 Oct 2009: ... "It's very important to go forward with countercyclical measures and regulate the interaction between the State and the private sector," said President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in Córdoba, where she attended a ceremony to commemorate the 40 anniversary of truck maker Iveco in Argentina... The President stressed the need to develop a "strategic plan" for truck makers, as "although trucks have been sold in recent months, the volume of sales has been unable to reverse the deceleration prompted by a crisis that was originated abroad"... However, she noted encouraging signs in the automotive sector. "In January, car production was estimated at 300,000 units and now we are estimating that we will reach a million" before the end of the year, she said...
